mtillbrook Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Ok, so i thought i would share with you all something stupid and annoying that occured the other week for me! There was a Windows update in November, KB3170455, which decided it was going to prompt everyone I had connected to a Ricoh MFP to prompt for a driver update. Even if a user was a local admin on thier laptop (some SMT were!) they still couldn't update the driver and, more annoyingly, as a domain admin I couldn't either. Needless to say I have removed this from WSUS now! It turns out that if you remove this update from both client and print server, everything gets fixed and starts working again! I think it was only affecting certian Ricoh drivers but it was a pain in the a*** for me! Enjoy!
fiza Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Yep - previously discussed http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/172860-kb3170455-preventing-printer-installation.html
mtillbrook Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 ah, ok cheers. I did try to search for it but obviously didn't look hard enough!
fiza Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 ah, ok cheers. I did try to search for it but obviously didn't look hard enough! I didn't find it either. We came across the issue last year and someone pointed me to it.
Jon_McWatters Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Has anyone removed the update and still been unable to install the print drivers? Windows 7 on a domain. I have uninstalled the update on several machines and they worked. Any ideas on how to fix without rebuilding the machine?
mtillbrook Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 Yes, I've had two machines on a network of several hundred that the fix didnt work for. The only solution was to re-build the machine I'm afraid but partly down to the fact I just didn't have the time to be playing with it for too long and re-building was faster!
