Shared OneDrive and SharePoint Files

I hope I can explain this clearly:

 

Sometimes if a user is sent an e-mail containing an attached or shared file from OneDrive or SharePoint they are unable to open it as the following error occurs:

 

user@school1... cannot be found in the school2-my.sharepoint.com directory

 

The reason I write school1 and school2 is because this is occurring between schools in our group, so in this example the message with the file is being sent from one of our primaries to one of our secondary schools where the recipient gets the error above.

 

I welcome any suggestions as to where I should begin.
