knightrider Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Ok, so I am going through a bit of a low point motivational wise at the mo, so I am throwing this out there. Looking for new ideas for infrastructure, increasing use of IT in teaching and everyday college life and ideas to start internal discussions with HOD and SMT. These can be 100% left field, right field, fantasy even. Everything & anything is welcome. My setup is as follows: FE College (VERY Vocational) Over 4500 FT & 3000 PT Students 3 Sites all linked with at least 100mb line Over 1000 desktops Over 200 mobile units Sitewide wi-fi IT Services Team consisting of: Me (IT Manager) Network Manager Network Administrator 2* IT techs Knightrider
3s-gtech Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I've been through this a fair bit recently - with limited budgets and reduced demand for new and shiny (which may be a good thing) it can feel like treading water. I implemented Office 365 via Azure AD Connect recently, which was a nice little project. No email or SfB migration so not too challenging, but plenty of user benefits. Worth working on your Windows 10 implementation if it's not finished (or started). Worth looking at mobile apps for the college, putting info in your students' pockets. Even timetables, news updates etc can increase engagement. We did ours in-house - a good learning experience perhaps? How about something cool to support or extend CS teaching? Lots of possibilities there - makers, robots, drones, web design/apps, IoT projects etc.
