leco Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 My school is a Junior so Y3 to Y6 (7 to 11 year olds). The head has put money into the proposed budget (new financial year in April) to buy cam corders and digital cameras. I think we will also need software for video and photo editing. Any ideas what's hot, what's not and what I should/could be looking at? Particularly interested in any software that people are already using. Many thanks.
pallen Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Well if you are letting the kids use them, how about the digi blue movie creator. for more info try here http://digiblue.com/digital_blue/ We haven't really used them alot, but they have been used by some key skills pupils and i have been told that they are usefull in a primary environment. The build doesn't look good, but i have been told that they will survive being dropped by the young ones. We have used windows movie maker when doing some video editing, and it worked fine. I would have thought that it would be good enough for the level you are talking about.

What I want is something simple to use which you can then just plug into a PC and drag the movie onto a drive for editing. I'd guess that if it saves the files as WMV then that would be good - Movie Maker would be enough for tidying up rough edges!
Domino Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I wouldn't recommend hard drive cameras at all, I've found the quality shaky, they often use propiertry software and a generally a PITA BACK TO MiniDV!

I'm still hoping for half-a-dozen Sanyo Xacti CA65's - waterproof, records straight to SD card, functionality of both a camcorder and a stills camera (i.e. half-decent zoom, half-decent image resolution, but both quite adequate for school use). Around £200 each. Haven't actually got one yet, (no money :-(), but they sound just the ticket. -- David Hicks
