theeggmaster Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 We have a Macbook which is acting as the Mac Server for profile deployment, MDM etc. It's started crashing regularly, so we've purchased a Mac mini to replace it. I'd like to do a P2V of the existing server so that we don't lose any settings or certificate trusts between the Mac server and iPads and run it on VMWare so I can take backups and make better use of the Mac Mini hardware. Has anyone managed to do this before? Just trying to not have to re-enroll all of the devices as we may lose any work that is on some of the MDM-deployed apps.

3s-gtech Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 That sounds like a perfectly workable idea. I'd put ESXi on a memory stick for this, giving the internal storage as much slack as possible. The shipping HDDs in Mac Minis are dire, and of course only a single 2.5" disk fits now. Thunderbolt attached (RAIDed) VM storage would be a good plan IMO. It will almost certainly be unusably slow with the standard non-fusion drive. 1
