New SAN - Advice please

We are looking to replace our SAN. We currently have an elderly EMC unit which is out of warranty and very low on space.

 

We require approximately 12tb of usable storage. The current SAN switches are HP Procurves running only on 10/100.

 

We run approximately 15 VMs, with nothing particularly intensive on throughput (the usual mix of file servers and one SIMs database.

 

At the BETT show a number of people were selling hyper converged solutions - are these really cost effective?

 

Given our size and requirements, what sort of thing should I be looking at?

Would something like this work potentially?

If I was in the market for totally new storage, I'd be seriously looking at rolling a Windows 2016 Storage Spaces set up. Could work out much cheaper than a new SAN and potentially better performing and more reliabile!

We had recently discussions with our supplier and things are moving round again. Few years ago Dell EqualLogic was good SAN storage .... Now Dell moving back to attached storages in hosts, using V-San or spaces.

Did you get the HPE 2042 Zammo? Just a quick note, but the 2042 comes with 2 x 400gb SSD so wouldn't you have 22 bays free for your SAS?
