Isnt is odd playing with rotary valves? The movement is very different - sort of sideways rather than up and down. I struggle with the other sort if i pick up one of those brass instruments (*shudder)

Rotary valves do indeed need rotary valve oil. Ive never seen a tuba with rotary valves - can we see a pic?

 

Can thoroughly recommend a you tube search for 'Canadian brass' - Charles Daellenbach uses a rotary valve tuba. If you can find their version of the pachelbel Canon, there's even a guest appearance of a certain mr Herbie Flowers - ex bass guitar/tuba player from 'Sky'. Ever heard Bach's toccata and fugue in D minor played by a brass quintet? Hear ye, oh organist, and weep! There's some damn fine horn playing, as well...
