Random offline printers appearing on win 10 domain machines in 2012 environment

Not sure if this issue entirely belongs in the Server 2012 forum, but I am pretty sure it's a server issue. Random offline copies of the main printer/MFD are appearing for domain users on their windows 10 laptops. I have checked under print management on the 2012R2 server and there are only two listings for the Ricoh printer, which are the printer and the redirection. I can remove the random printer instances in devices and printers on the client machine, but sometimes they reappear for no apparent reason. Just wondered if anyone could let me know why this might be happening please, or how to troubleshoot this as I am quite new to the server side of things. Also, when a user sets the printer in question as the default printer it doesn't retain the default setting, which is frustrating for the user. Don't know how to set the printer as the default device on the server, so any help greatly appreciated.

I had something similar at a primary school and it turned out the printer was advertising itself along with our print server advertising the printer. Odd thing was it would only display the direct connected printers on windows 10 not 7 or 8 laptops.

 

I needed to disable some settings on the MFD but cant remember which ones.

Thanks TwistedHelixis, it sounds like a similar issue. It could well be that the MFD is advertising itself as I don't have this issue with the HP printers in the offices. Just don't know what to change on the MFD. The other odd thing is that I am only seeing this on the teachers win 10 laptop. All machines are joined to the same domain and therefore are getting the same policies. When random instances of the Ricoh MFD appear they are always showing as offline. I keep having to remove the "phantom" copies of the MFD! Any other help much appreciated. Also there there a way that I can make the Ricoh the default printer as when the teacher sets it as the default is changes when they log off or reboot?

All the same issues as me - staff only - windows 10 - Ricoh - Offline.

 

I called the help Ricoh desk and they gave me 3 settings to change on the Ricoh MFD. Sorry but I did it while they where on the phone and did not write anything down.

 

BTW the service engineer when onsite, did not believe me and said I must have set the server up incorrectly.

Thanks for that TwistedHelixis, I will give that a try. That sounds about right what the copier engineer said. They always say that it's anything but the copier
