It depends what you want to record with. I have a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T-500 which has excellent support under both Windows and Linux. I currently use it with Media Center on Vista and it works a treat.

Another vote for the Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T-500 - works a treat in MediaPortal - this is driving my 'media centre' in the living room right now. Also excellent support in MythTV (http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_about.php)

 

Obviously depends what you need to record - Analogue, DVB-T, DVB-C or DVB-S. the Hauppauge is for DVB-T (Freeview)

 

EDIT: I'm hearing and reading good things about the BlackGold 6 in 1 - which I'm now seriously considering for Freesat's launch later in the spring - free HD channels ftw.
