I'm looking to free up some space on an ageing and creaking 2012 Fileserver.

Can someone suggest a program similar to windirstat or treesize that could find and list me large files by type.

I suspect the problem is the plethora of films and music the staff brought in for christmas.

file server resource manager its built into server 2008+ "just isnt on by default its part of file and print services iirc) you can even use it to stop people saving say mp4's to specific locations

We use GetFolderSize to get a breakdown of areas which are the worst offenders. We tend to use it to run against Shared drives and it will scan mapped drives. FSRM is good but I tend to use GetfolderSize first to identify the problem areas.

Whilst all these ideas are much appreciated its not really what I am after.

I want to be able to list all files by type - (say mp4) on a file share.

As @sted suggested - FSRM can do this. Open up FSRM and go to storage Reports Management. Right Click Generate Reports Now>Select Files by Group> Untick All Files and select Selected file Groups. Just select Audio & Video files and then you can run a report against the area you want. You can also do large files etc if needed.
