Have a bit of an issue with regards to the proxy settings.

Our users get their proxy settings via GPO, however in the last couple of days this isn't working for all users.

I can logon to my machine with no problem and get my proxy settings. However I have logged in to another machine that has only just been insatalled and updated and the proxy setting look like the attached.

If I untick the box, the setting automatically reverts back to being ticked. If I go in to Advanced under LAN settings the server for http and https are set to 127.0.0.1 and the ports seem to vary, but mostly start 49***

I have run a virus scan on the machine, which didn't give any results.

I have tried a scan with ADWCleaner, but this didn't find anything of any use.

Has anyone had this issue? or does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

Be worth looking in the Event Logs on an affected machine to look for errors/warnings.

If you want some peace-of-mind in relation to suspicious activity, grab yourself a copy of cPorts from here; Run as Administrator and it should show you the general networking activity going on for that PC, including apps that are listening to certain ports...

Thanks for the reply.

I have found the problem. I don't expect anyone else with have the problem unless they use AB tutor. My tech assistant enabled a policy in AB Tutor to log activity on the clients. This seemed to work very well, however this has now started to give this behaviour, which I find very strange. I found this out by running Process Monitor from Sysinternals. I found this thread that helped: www.grishbi.com/

I have this problem which is caused by AB Tutor. When you apply a web policy on AB Tutor it forces web traffic through it's own proxy, which then forwards on if I understand correctly. However, for me it doesn't forward on for all clients (but which clients don't work changes with every reboot). AB Tutor are aware of the problem, but cannot replicate it in their HQ. They did release an update to me on Friday which changes the web policy handler, but this hasn't fixed the problem for me.

I have been on to AB tutor and I have got to send them some logs from a faulting machine.

I have actually removed the policy, so will need to put it back in place. Once I grab the logs and get a reply, hopefully they will give a solution. Would be useful to get it working.
