RIP Lester Haines of The Register

Not sure how many here read The Register but I've always found it a valuable source of IT-related information. Sad to see today that Lester Haines has passed away.

A very honest obituary, not only telling of his achievements but also his problems:

 

This is not meant to be a eulogy and the end of the Rockall Times revealed several of Lester’s less lovely attributes. He could start an argument in a lift, never mind in a small boat in the Atlantic. He could get absurdly and self-defeatingly angry. He was sacked at least twice from The Register and resigned or threatened to quit even more frequently. He was hopeless with money. He had a series of fallings-out with people from which he would never back down and difficult relationships with women. In the last few years he took a wilful disregard for his health to absurd lengths and refused to acknowledge the damage he was doing.

RIP Lester

I love the Register (even if it can be a bit tabloid-y) and his presence will be sorely missed I think.

Wow. He managed to cram an awful lot into his life. I used to love reading the Rockall Times.
