URGENT!! On one of our promethean boards

on right hand side of the screen near the clock we have a liltte box with a red cross coming through it.

 

everything is plugged in but it states board not connected was it is..

 

can you please try and help me how to solve it

Is the usb working on the machine. I have seen this when usb has been disabled in the bios.

 

Test the port with a usb stick.

 

I have also seen this if the other end of the cable has come out of the board at the back.

Promethean boards used to have issues with the USB drivers being unsigned. If the teacher unplugged the board and put it into a different port then it'll try and use the default HID driver. And fail.

 

Go into device manager and have a look to see if it's picked up as a Human Interface Device. If so, manually select the promethean driver. To be on the safe side I'd do this with every USB port on the computer.....

After my troubles with teachers not switching the boards on yesterday, this one is very fresh!

 

The power supply pack may have failed, try one from another board

I usually have to log in with admin rights, unplug the board from the usb and plug it back in again and then double check it's using the correct driver in device manager.

Yep, second this one. We have even had a Promethean power pack disappear completely! And I'm not joking!

 

Luckily it resurfaced a few days later, but we never did figure out how it came disconnected from the back of the board and got carted away! And it wasn't a child either.

I love this, anyone know if the problem's been fixed?

 

I'd advise calling tech support, they're not nasty people and they can fix this problem.

 

But just a summary of things to do.

 

1. Switch it off and on again

2. If the board didn't beep when you switched it on then it could be a faulty psu, try another one. Or the psu might not be connected, check cables.

3. Serial or USB? If it's serial try starting the driver manually on the correct port, right click the driver icon and choose settings, the rest is obvious.

4. Update the driver, driver 4 onward was signed, so has less chance of anything cocking up in device manager.

5. Try logging on as another user, maybe an admin

6. LET US KNOW WHAT FIXED IT
