DrayTek PPPoE passthrough issues with 2860 - So close but no cake yet

Am so close to getting this working with my BT Infinity connection. The Firewall is a PaloAlto VM series running on ESXi 6.0.

 

It works fine when using a BT OpenReach Modem.

 

But jus sitts at Pending PPP/Negotiating LCP when using the DrayTek. This is as close as I get with no changes made on the PaloAkto

 

Can anyone please post pics/screenshots of a working setup, I've tried so many online docs it's not funny.

Is your Draytek a modem or a router? If it's a router it's a real possibility that if it's authenticated via PPPoE already, your ISP will only allow one session.

 

I'd have thought the Openreach modem would have sufficed to provide a connection to the Palo Alto though? We use the OR modem with our Sophos UTM (using PPPoE) fine.

Yep I tried that too but don't even get as far as getting Access Concentrator info.

It is yes, a 2860. I bought one not thinking of doing a simple pass through but don't really want to sell it and buy a Vigor130. So that's why I bought the OpenReach cheap off ebay. When I look in the status on the DrayTek it gives no indication that it is connected. It showed a status of Training I seem to remember.

 

Moving forwards, I'd like to move away from the the OpenReach though as I believe BT are making some infrastructure changes which will not be compatible hence I believe why they do not supply them anymore. Don't want to a buy a Vigor130 if the 2860 can do the same thing and act as a backup device incase I have probs with the Virtual.

Maybe give it a hard reset and start from scratch if you haven't tried that.

Keep the idea's coming :-) , I'm sure this will work.

 

I have VT-d available on the hosts so could think about dedicated NIC for the VM.

 

As it is setup at the moment it has a dedicated NIC but uses a vswitch.

The interesting bit is the Note which states If this tick box is checked while using the PPPoA protocol, the router will behave like a Modem which only serves the PPPoE client on the LAN.

 

Have reset a few times and started from scratch though :-) .
