My Little Helpdesk help needed

Could someone please send me a step by step document on how to get this working.. as I am stumped

 

1/ How to see if the server is OK for it

 

2/ How to instal mysql / sql and how to make an empty database

 

3/ Where to copy the MLH files (i know it's the root but where is that)

1. If you can run MySQL/SQL Express/ IIS... you can run this. (I split IIS and database for other reasons and that works pretty well )

 

2. I downloaded SQL 2005 Express from the microsoft site.

 

Follow the instructions to install and set up a database from there too... it's pretty easy (except when it comes to granting access to SQL, I just used the SA account in the end )

 

3. Copy the whole folder to C:\Inetpub\www_root\

 

Unless you've set up another IIS account to run it, in which case, use that folder.

 

 

I've not used 9.6b yet, so I might be wrong

Do you already have an SQL server running at your school?? if you do can you not create a new database on there??

 

If you do decide to go the MS SQL Express route I would also use mixed mode authentication as Windows only authentication can be difficult to setup.

To install MyLittleHelpdesk follow these steps:

1 - Create an empty MySQL or MSSQL database with the relevant user access.

2 - Unzip and upload the MLH folder to the root of your website.

3 - Edit the details found in the incs\db_connect.asp file with the details of you databse server and user.

4 - Point your browser at http://{your_url}/MLH/Install/ and follow the install wizard.

5 - Your helpdesk is now ready to use.

This little helpdesk is doing my head in :-)... I can't install it for love of money...

 

PC XP Pro SP 2

Made new login: sysadmin

SQL Server Name / IP: Is this the Name of the PC ?

SQL Server Database Name: Helpdesk ?

SQL Server Username: MLHD ?

SQL Server Password: XXXX ?

SQL Server Type: MySQL Server MS SQL Server ?

 

And ity keeps failing,,, says there is a problem with the user account..

 

Error Connecting to database on SQL Server

 

Check the following is set up and correct:-

 

SQL Server Username

SQL Server Password

 

 

-2147467259 - [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied..

 

I need to have the helpdask so that the staff do not have to get user accounts to post a fault... as they are already authenticated by logging onto the PC..

Can be server name or IP but make sure that in following format for sql2005: -

 

servernameorip\databasename
