lkaylor Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I work in a primary school and we have 9 x Nexus 7 tablets. I have been able to download Expeditions app but cannot use the app. When launching 'guide' mode the app shuts down. I can launch in 'explorer' mode and detect a guide on the Nexus (am able to launch the guide on a Samsung tablet) but the expedition does not start. I have tried this on both the schools' Dell /Aruba wifi, dual band, and at home just in case there was an issue on the schools network. The Nexus 7 has the latest ios 5.1.1. I would appreciate any advice, we have had a demonstration by a Google representative and the school is very keen to use our own devices. Thanks in advance
Cazale Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) Nexus runs Android not IOS, the latest version of Android is 7 (5.1.1 is a 2 and a half years old!). Not sure it's available for your device yet, but you should be able to update to some version of 6.*.* I think. Edit: depends which version of the Nexus 7 you have apparently. The 2012 versions won't update to 6, while 2013 version will (according to: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/android-m-release-date-when-can-i-get-it-1297182) Edited December 8, 2016 by Cazale 1
lkaylor Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Thanks for that insight Cazale, I will see if I am able to update the ios as you suggest. i will update this post on my findings.

PrimaryNetMan Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 On a side note has anyone managed to get devices to talk to each other on a managed network? On both a RUCKUS and UniFi network the explorers can see the guide but they fail to connect. Use an independent wireless router and everything works as intended.
lkaylor Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Hi PrimaryNetMan, I thought it may have been the school wifi and permissions /filters etc but, it is a little confusing as the Samsung tablet and other devices such as phones worked.

Have you got wireless isolation turned on? (that prevents wifi devices talking to each other).
PrimaryNetMan Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Have you got wireless isolation turned on? (that prevents wifi devices talking to each other). Nope, that was my first thought. Explorers do pop-up briefly on the guides list but then vanish!
lkaylor Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 that's what happened whilst I was playing with it on my home wifi.

IGMP snooping turned on (on the switch)? I had a very similar issue with iPads/MFP, turning off IGMP snooping fixed it. Edit: I'm assuming a multicast issue? I'm not too familiar with this tech.
