HELP with iPads!

Help needed desperately with ipads

 

Last week I boldly decided to update one of our sets of IPads(30). I am using Apple Configurator 2. Plug into the charging cart with the Mac, knowing that these ipads needed the IOS updating as well as some of the apps I decided to go for it ........ bad mistake. It was taking ages, and I mean ages, well off I go in need of a cup of tea and I come back and find someone's interfered. Well I wish that I had not had that B***ldy cup of tea now. I have been trying to sort this set of Ipads out since then. 15 of them were okay. But the other 15 a different story.

 

After instaling IOS manually we then could not get the apps back on the, so decided to prepare the Ipads and start again. Again we could not get the apps back on, and it was taking so long. Decided to try and do it in smaller batches, today got to the point where I was making some headway (along with internet issues this morning) and decided to put the restriction profiles back onto the ipads before putting some of them back into use, and then realised that the Ipads were not "Supervised".

 

Decided that I had done something wrong and should have tried locking one down before getting carried away. On Well!

 

Next erased ipads using configurator 2 and then tried prepare again. Then got this error message "unable to activate 8 pads. Device maybe activation locked. Continue on the devices or use iTunes to activate them and try again!!! Well not one to give in I tried this and I just seem to be going around in circles. Ipads still showing as Unsupervised. Help..... All the ipads have Apple ID's. I have also tried restoring from icloud backup.

Prepare

Add Apps

Add restrictions, have I missed something?

We had problems over the summer trying to wipe 1100 iPads with Apple Configurator, sometimes it would just refuse to do anything useful.

 

Our solution was to put the iPad in DFU Mode and reload it. See here - https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/DFU_Mode

 

I take it this iPads aren't on DEP or have been logged in to with Apple IDs?

1. If a user is signed into an iPad with an Apple ID then AC2 will rightly assume that the apps being assigned to the iPad are " personal" if you are using just AC2 for apps then you should not be using any AppleID's on any iPads at all.

 

2. From your post it would appear that people have been signing into iPads with a personal Apple ID for the store and iCloud and this is the reason why you are getting activation lock messages. When a user signs into iCloud it activates activation lock for find my iPhone. When you come to wipe the iPad and Supervise it, it will request the end users Apple ID and password before the device can be wiped and Supervised. If they are requesting activatation lock then DFU mode will not help you here.

 

3. I would ditch AC2 altogether and invest in an MDM.
