Another START Menu question : Administrative tools showing

So I've made some good progress over the last few days.

 

I've used the script from the sticky above to remove some of the apps from my base Education WIM file, added this to MDT and built up a test PC using this new install.

 

The PC has been added to my domain and all pupil and computer policies are applying without error.

 

I've now got a basic custom start tile layout and desktop redirection is working fine.

 

But how can I remove the items from the Start Menu that begin "Windows..." see screenshot below?

 

Is there a way to control what appears on this menu using group policies?

 

 

I could have a very minimal set of icons as all the shortcuts the pupils need would be on the common redirected desktop.

do you want an easy way? iirc I just either altered the permissions so staff/pupils were denied access to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools or I just used attrib +h on it to hide it. Also the same as in 7 if you hide the all user start menu and use redirected it dosent appear iirc

Thanks, I've redirected now to the same folder location as the desktop.

 

But what's the GPO link to "hide the all user start menu", can't seem to locate it

Hey All,

 

I'm having the same issues here with our start menu on 1607 - I've got 'Remove common items' GPO turned on and I'm populating it through a script that copies the shortcuts to the %appdata% start menu folder; but I can't get rid of Windows Accessories, Administrative Tools etc.

 

I've tried hiding the folders but it always seems to repopulate them automatically - Also I can't get the redirected Start Menu to work correctly(!)

 

From what I gather from this thread, if we re-direct the start menu and apply the 'Hide all Apps' GPO this will resolve the issue - However I can't seem to get these two policies working together...
