HP ProLiant microserver Gen8 HELPPPP...

Hello,

 

Wondering if anyone can help, I recently bought a server from eBay and having trouble setting it up.

 

I'm trying to install hyper-v or just server 2012 R2, but getting stuck, it's not bringing any drives up, there's room for 4 drives, I'm using all four slots with X4 500GB hard drives, when I'm coming to install server 2012, none of the drives are showing.

 

I've contacted the seller who said I need to install some drivers to allow the hard drives to work, he's sent me some links etc but none of them seem to be the right driver.

 

Please can anyone point me in the right direction??

Don't know if the gen 8 had native IP support for 2012, but if so, intelligent provisioning is your friend here:

If IP doesn't support 2012 on that Gen, here's my thinking.

 

Servers bought off Fleabay typically had their drives pulled/wiped, and who knows what they did in the RBSU (Nuke the array configuration...) I'd go into the RBSU (F9 during POST) and make sure the Raid controller/array configurations are correct and it actually sees the drives, then retry the install.

I have a Gen 8 and I setup 2012 R2 using IP. You have to boot to it and follow its steps and it should set it up for you.

It has been a while since I installed though.

Hit F10 during POST and follow the guide I posted above. If F10 doesn't work, you'll have to reenable IP from RBSU - the destructions to do this are in the manual I linked above. I would be sure to go into the array config part of IP if for no other reason than to verify the array is set up the way you want it - before you install and then discover it's not what you want.

Had this problem with a N36L and 2012 R2. Just downloaded the drivers and installed as the OP was prompted.

dosent 2012r2 need an updated bios (it may have it) to install on a gen8?

Make sure you are building through Intelligent provisioning.

Also make sure that you have the virtual driver store enabled in the bios as this will contain everything you need!

 

I have had 2012r2 and 2016 running on my 3 Gen8's without any updates.

We deployed gen 8 blades at the last place, were advised to use Intelligent Provisioning but then told we didn't need to and had no problems deploying the servers either way. Was a bit easier without IP though TBH.
