I've had an iPad Mini since November 2013 mainly at the time as I had an Android phone and wanted something Apple to help with work. Now I don't use it other than scrolling through the web and the odd email when I am at home, its now starting to show its age and I am after a replacement.

Prior to this I had a Samsung NC10 netbook running XP and have tried to up it to 7 but it just cannot handle it, other than that it was a perfect sized device and handy for when travelling. I've had full sized laptops and I have sold each one I just cannot get on with them.

I am now out for a replacement and I am looking at Android based tablets but haven't got a clue what is the best to go for. For what I need I think I can get away with something Android based, mainly web browsing, email and odd bit of iPlayer but also to use at work to access the web portal when out and about tethered to my mifi or the wifi. I think I would look for something with a suitable keyboard accessory this time so help things out but looking around the 9.7-10" size, battery life is quite important but if I can get a few days out of easy use I will be happy.

If I wanted to go Windows I think it would be down to the Samsung Tab Pro S or the Microsoft Surface but both are pricey so I think have narrowed it down to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or Tab E as the spec on the Pixel C doesn't look great. The thing that concerns me is that both are over a year old now and its the Tab2 that is winning me.

What else is out there that is of better spec and maybe cheaper? Then as I read more the Tab A appears to be newer and of some better spec but I really don't know what to look at.

I'm looking to get one my Dad can part buy for Christmas and I will put the difference to as I know I would get the usage out of it but I just want it to be the right device.

Any advice please? Thanks

I'm trying to keep away from the laptop idea, quite like the idea of a tablet, never got on with my iPad for day to day stuff and I did try one for work and really got on with it. With that one been work I didn't want any personal bits on where as if I had my own I would use it day in day out and hopefully get away from the PC a bit.

I keep looking at the Linx windows based ones but the reviews I read are poor, personally I think its going to come down to the Samsung. Would be nice to have a Windows one but not sure how I'd get on with Windows on a tablet been so used to Android.
