gshaw Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) Not one for work but just wondering yours thoughts on sub-laptops. We've all seen the eeePC, nice if somewhat underpowered and too small a screen for my liking (although there seems to be a 10" one in the plans?) Looking for something to run XP Pro on (wipe Vista!) say 1GB-2GB RAM, dual core preferable. Seen a Samsung Q70 that looks pretty good, don't wanna go much further than £850 reallu. http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/806/eepccompareox1.th.jpg Seen this pic, anyone know what the black laptop is? Or wait for this? http://regmedia.co.uk/2008/02/19/hp_2133_1.jpg http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/02/19/hp_compaq_2133_spied/ The other option was to get a Nokia E90 and not bother with a laptop but it's verrry pricey and still won't show some webpages properly as it reports itself as a phone in the headers Edited February 22, 2008 by gshaw
fafster Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 That HP looks smart. The Asus U2E looks good, too, but I think will be out of your price range.
tech_guy Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) The black one is also an Asus but which model I don't know. You can just make out the Asus badge under the screen. Edited February 22, 2008 by tech_guy
Erudit Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) Hi There Have you had a look at the Everum UMPC offering with a 7" screen. they look interesting: http://www.raondigital.com/fnt_english/ Edited February 24, 2008 by Ric_ Possible advert snipped
gshaw Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 tech_guy: you've got better eyesight than I do! Think it may be that U2E mentioned above? mrforgetful: hmm MicroLite looks good but Google doesn't seem to bring up many results for suppliers, are they still being sold or is it a model only available 2nd hand now? Erudit: looks nice, similar to the Q1 Ultra but really after something with a proper keyboard, unless it comes with a portfolio case similar to the Q1 (yet omitted on the Ultra pack along with the USB keyboard )
localzuk Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 How about one of the Vye range? http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11105&NavigationKey=50598&CategorySelectedId=11105&PageMode=1
plexer Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Microlite sold by ergo: http://www.ergo.co.uk/products/laptops/microlite521/index.html I have one as my work machine and it's an odler model now about 2 1/2 years old but still going great guns. I love it. Ben
mrforgetful Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Beat me too it. We got 5 this week, seem nice and never had much problems with any of our other Ergos. Only slight drawback is the screen's are very shiney.
plexer Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Every one is doing high gloss screens now and I do not know why they reflect light badly, my microlite has a matte screen. Ben
fafster Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 How much are the microlites? I can't see prices anywhere. And what's battery life like?
gshaw Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 The Vye range look quite good, anyone used em before?
gshaw Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 How much are the microlites? I can't see prices anywhere. And what's battery life like? Do the "get online quote" button on the right hand side ;-) The one I did came to 693 exc. VAT, bit too big for what I want, proably leaning more towards the UMPC range
torledo Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) The black one is also an Asus but which model I don't know. You can just make out the Asus badge under the screen. looks more like an acer to me. woops!! better take that back, didn't realise the acer logo was a lower case a. PeterW Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 They are all ASUS notebooks by the looks of it.
