Often have these discussions, and as always there is a small amount of overlap.

 

As a general rule, classroom management solutions are designed for teachers and students but often have some techie features as well, and they normally only run from when you start a lesson and choose to connect to student devices until you finish the lesson. Classroom Management products include NetSupport School, LanSchool, NetOP School, AB Tutor, RM Tutor, Viglen Classlink etc etc

 

School IT Management suites, are pitched for IT Staff first and foremost and tend to be distinguished by being a database centric solution where agents are always running and you have a central "repository" of all Inventory, licensing and student acitivty data across the network. Things like Software Distributuion, "scheduled" power management, safeguarding etc are included. Most also include some form of classroom management, but sometimes a more "lightweight" equivalent. Solutions include NetSupport DNA, Impero and in parts (Microsoft SCCM). Other corporate solutions include Landesk etc but lack education specific features.

 

** There are lots of solutions so the above list is just a flavour of some of the most common.
