File Explorer on start menu - LTSB2016

Does anyone know how to get the little File Explorer icon to show on the left of the start icon other than going to Settings > Personalisation > Start > Choose which folders appear on start.

 

LTSB2016 seems to not want to put File Explorer on the start as default. I didn't know if there was a registry hack which could change this.

 

The attached show the difference in changes however this is only done via settings, not a reghack.

I couldn't find a gpo or reg setting for this when I was looking into it. What I had to do was make the change in the settings app and then copy AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database to a mandatory or default profile

Thanks for this. I got it to work by copying a configured start menu (TileDataLayer) to C:\users\default\appdata\. Tested it by logging in with a test student account with a V5 mandatory profile and the file explorer icon is there and clickable.

For the LTSB2016 V6 mandatory profiles we had to add Local\TileDataLayer to the mandatory profile for this to work otherwise the account wouldn't pick up the settings in the default profile. Staff however were different, they picked up the settings in Default as they dont use a mandatory profile, instead, they use roaming profiles.

Is there any way to remove the power button from the LTSB2016 start menu? I can remove the sleep/shutdown/restart options, which makes the power button just give you an empty box, but I want to remove it entirely.

Not sure if that is possible, don't forget to remove the options from the 'right click on start button' menu which is located in the users profile \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX

We have File Explorer and Run showing in the WinX menu, as well as desktop and Shutdown or Sign out. The run command is left in there as we disable the windows key on the keyboard so students cannot create new virtual desktops as there is no way of disabling this feature. The keyboard command "WinKey + TAB" still worked even if we removed the task bar icons.

Nothing pinned to the taskbar, its completely blank for our users. Nothing but a nice clean taskbar for our lot.

I haven't had a chance to try what's here in the thread yet, so sorry if it's an obvious answer, but I'm guessing you disable the Taskbar Search and Window View in settings and that is copied with the start items? Or is there is a different way about it? Do you know if you can pin items for all users?

Any ideas how to make "Printers and Scanners" in control panel available to students without allowing anything else from settings or control panel?

 

I've got this line in my startlayout:

 

Which adds the tile for Printers and Scanners, but i can't find a way of enabling access. I'm probably trying to do it a difficult way though to be honest...

 

EDIT: actually ignore that, I'm opting to do the start menu a different way. Not bothering with a layout and using the tiles. I've got _Sign Out link at the top, 5 items with 1. and 2. infront of them to force them to the top in organised lists. Start menu isn't that big anyway
