NokiX Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 I current have an old Lenovo iomega box I use for home storage however it's starting to mess up and give errors on the GUI. This keeps happening and I'm pretty sure it's the box itself since the data is fine it's just the GUI that keeps messing up so I'm looking to replace it. I already have 4 2TB drives in this server which I'll keep so I just need a new chassis but I have no idea what to look for these days for a home NAS. Ideally it needs to have a decent GUI and if possible have transmission torrent or something similar to handle torrents since on the occasion I do download anything it get's stored on the server. Any suggestions?
Arthur Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) There's a currently a £60 cashback offer on the HPE Gen 8 Microserver. Install FreeNAS on it, add an extra 8GB RAM and you've got a 4/5-bay NAS for ~£166. Server: www.ebuyer.com/722189 (£119.99 after cashback) RAM: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008LMNXS0 (£46.50) There's also a third-party bracket available that lets you add a further 4 x 2.5" drives... http://homeservershow.com/hp-microserver-gen8-drive-bracket.html If your budget is a bit larger the Synology DS916+ is a good choice. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EI015LK (£503) Both are capable of running Transmission, although the Synology NAS might be overkill.
