Years ago, on the Archimedes, there was a little programme that produced a family of cockroaches. They'd hide under open windows, and scurry off to new hiding places if their cover was moved or closed. Quite brilliant.

There used to be a whole family of fun desktop widgets like that. There was a bouncing sheep, which for some reason had the name scmpoo.exe, and who remembers Bonzi Buddy? Plus of desk various other desktop companions in the form of ladies.

Are you sure it isn't a real live bug? I've had thrips inside the screen on my TFT monitor and there are still 4 or 5 dead ones in there. Strangely, I never experienced this in the CRT days, so I think they are attracted to a particular wavelength of light. Plenty of google hits show I'm not alone https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=thrips+monitor&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=6rIcWIinI8Lhac_jk_AN

As soon as i alt+tabbed out it went away, turns out it was someones avatar in the recent posts section of the homepage, fooled me up a kipper!

remember the sheep that was quite amusing on windows 95, can't say I was a fan of the spyware filled bonzi buddy though here, though it did make me money removing it.

Ooooo yeah - I worked in a large office when that came out

half the PCs were left alone all day to see what he would do - there were rumors of all sorts and we wanted to 'test them out'
