Power on Macs with Apple Remote Desktop

I am trying to get the macs to power on remotley from Apple Remote Desktop, but nothing happens. Please does someone know what I need to change in order to do this?

You can't - not from a switched off state.

 

The Mac's need to be sleeping. I never understood why Apple didn't implement a 'full' WoL

You can create a power on and off schedule if that helps. You can also configure that centrally in workgroup manager

That's correct, Apple's version of WoL only works in Sleep mode, not off mode. I agree it's odd, but I can only conclude it's to do the Apple's BIOS.
