unixman_again Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I guess it was inevitable Apple raises computer prices in UK - BBC News Luckily we bought 10 new Macs a few weeks ago but we're supposedly replacing a suite of 24 27" ones next year - ouch! Methinks we'll be putting it off for 12 months.

Back on topic, while the Mac price rises were expected, the fact that Apple have also increased the prices of the Mac mini and Mac Pro without a single hardware update for the past 2 to 3 years is disgusting.

elsiegee40 Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 (edited) The prices of these things are increasing - because the cost of their components (or ingredients - marmite) have increased due to the falling pound - because the unit price of the imported item made outside the UK has now increased due to the falling pound - because the manufacturer wants the price to be equal in all territories and thus discourage the US (say) buying all its products via the UK. The pound has been on the slide against the US dollar since a peak in early 2014 so increasing prices with no change to a product are no surprise. Edited October 28, 2016 by elsiegee40

Actually, it'll end when goods we import, which is just about everything, have gone up in price by the amount the pound has dropped in value since the brexit vote Unfortunately we can expect things to get worse over the coming months if/when the government actually triggers article 50..... Although I expect prices of food to go up by 20%. Alternatives for the weekly shop will help, speaking to relatives that were around in the 70's, "it's nothing compared to then". So, whilst the pound has weakened, they can manufacture their 3 year old models far cheaper than they could before. Also, with Marmite, the ingredients come from the UK too I'd imagine, as its yeast!

Nobody wants the 3-year-old model though. It's essentially end-of-life straight out the factory door.
