Hi there,

I am thinking of putting our ML350 G6 into our rack. It is an older server and the proper HP rack mount kits are still quite expensive.

Does anyone know how heavy the ML350 is?

Was thinking of getting something like this or this. Both are substantially cheaper than an HP Rack Mount Conversion Kit for this older piece of hardware.

Having used the Proliant Rack Conversion kits in the past which are designed for this purpose I wouldn't recommend that you use a shelf unless it's actually mounted in all four corners.

Something like this is better.

A cheap alternative if you can locate them on eBay are second hand APC UPS rail kits

They fit to all four posts have adjustable depth and have about 50mm of steel wrapping under each side of your heavy box to keep it level.

Very minimalist.

Thank you for your post. Do you know if the Startech rack you linked to will 100% fit the ML 350 G6 as if it will do, I will go with that. I agree, it looks far more sturdy and will allow me to fix it in all four corners as you say.

The company I normally use for racking is suggesting some of the items on this page:

What do you think about the 3u one at the bottom?

That looks fine and is pretty much what the APC rail kit looks like.

As long as it lets you spread the weight between all 4 posts you will be fine.

That's great. Will see if I can get one ordered. Thanks for your help. :)
