Hi All,

I am in the processing of migrating all of our on-premise mailboxes to Office 365 but I having an issue with our whole school calendar.

Our whole school calendar that was created on-premise has been shared to all users, but users who have been migrated to Office 365 cannot view it.

Does anybody know how I can overcome this issue?

Thanks..

HI Qas,

The issue is around support. Microsoft don't support the ability for users who have cloud mailboxes to see mailboxes that are on prem. This is either a user to shared calendar, room etc. Technically it has been known to work but also not work at other times. If you have moved all your staff to the cloud, it is worth looking to migrate any shared mailboxes too. Any other option is to elevate the DL you have for Staff to an Office 365 and migrate the content of the calendar to the group allow them to see that calendar in their Outlook easier.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the explanation. I would like to move all of our staff to the cloud but the whole school calendar is very important to them. As soon as I migrate a member of staff, they will lose access to the Calendar.

I am thinking of migrating the outlook calendar to a sharepoint online calendar to make things easier. Your thoughts Alex?

It depends how the migration is being done - if this is a hybrid environment then it will be possible, see this information from TechNet:

Support for cross-premises mailbox permissions

Exchange hybrid deployments support the use of the

Full Access

mailbox permission between mailboxes located in an on-premises Exchange organization and mailboxes located in Office 365. A mailbox on an on-premises Exchange server can be granted the

Full Access

permission to an Office 365 mailbox, and vice versa. For example, an Office 365 mailbox can be granted the

Full Access

permission to an on-premises shared mailbox. Users need to open the mailbox using the Outlook desktop client; cross-premises mailbox permissions aren't supported in Outlook on the web.

We don’t, however, support the use of the Send-As, Receive-As, or Send on behalf of mailbox permissions in hybrid deployments between on-premises Exchange and Office 365 organizations. We also don't support delegating permissions to a mailbox or individual folders using the Outlook client. These permissions are only available when both the mailbox granting the permissions, and the mailbox receiving the permissions, are in the same organization. Any mailboxes that receive these permissions from another mailbox need to be moved at the same time as that mailbox. If a mailbox receives permissions from multiple mailboxes, that mailbox, and all of the mailboxes granting permissions to it, need to be moved at the same time. In addition to these permissions, the Auto Mapping feature is also unsupported when used between mailboxes in the on-premises Exchange and Office 365 organizations.

have you thought about using an Office 365 Group? DL, Shared Docuements, a copy of all emails sent in the DL (so new staff can see them) and also, of course, a shared calendar. Only problem is that all members can edit it.

This was an issue within my organisation and I had to gear this up to do this part all in one for my team, as it would have caused similar issues to what your seeing, I realised early on that our rooms and equipment bookings all hinged on SMT being able to see them, same for the shared calendars in place as well, it was easier for me to do all the people sharing in a batch and get them over at the same time.
