SIMS Advanced Reporting with Excel Analysis

HiI am trying to create a spreadsheet to analyse results for list of aspects for all pupils. When I run a couple of the aspects, it works perfectly, however when I add more it just hangs. If I split the report I have I need at least 17 aspects, if I don't split my report I need up to 50. Is there anyway to get this to work ? Appreciate any commentsThanks!

So is the structure of the report something like Student, results sub report filtered to English, results subreport filtered for maths etc? It's a long time since I tried similar but I remember having the same problem - it's too much work for SIMS to work through all those subreport filters.

 

What's the purpose of the report? My initial reaction is that exporting a marksheet to excel would be simpler. Or if you have any experience of MS Access running the report with one, unfiltered, results subreport then using a crosstab query might help.

Thanks - yes that's it. I think its as you say, too much for it - was hoping for a miracle answer !! I have since tried two things to present the report - one is to export the marksheet to a pre-prepared spreadsheet as you say - the analysis still works and it is quick. I have also done a sims extract with one long list of all the aspects - this seems to work and I have been able to produce the report. Will see which is preferred!Thank you for replying - much appreciated

No worries - well done for finding the workarounds. In general with heavy reports I find that previewing, then running from the preview sometimes works where a straight run report hangs - but that's something that only helps on the margins - there's only so far sims reporting can go!

You can create a master spreadsheet that would read from any marksheet that you pull out of sims. We use to do this until SISRA was brought for analysis. So our master sheet would have all the snazzy stuff on it and it would just reference the data on the exported marksheet.

One other way would be to use the scheduled SIMS reports widget on the SIMS homepage. That way your report could run overnight and users just view the results by clicking the report they want from the widget.
