Internet explorer SOUND issues

Weird one...

 

On some machines Internet Explorer has unchecked the 'play sounds in web browser' option...it's sporadic...any idea why this may be happening??? Group policy???

We had this. You can force it on with group policy. Windows Components/I.E./Internet Control Panel/Advanced Page/Play Sounds in Webpages

Thanks for this. I'll give it a try. We did already have a policy in place but it is for IE8 so I'm wondering if it's affecting other versions of IExplorer

Incidentally, I'm fairly sure this got unticked after a Windows Update a few months ago (weird as it sounds). When this first happened it happened simultaneously across 3 schools, all with different setups, at the same time, and I talked about it to a techie at another school, and he'd just seen the exact same thing happen for the first time.

 

We just assumed Microsoft pushed something out that did something it wasn't meant to do.

It's also available in prefs, control panel settings, IE 10 (or 8/9) advanced, multimedia. If you enable one and the other is disabled you'll get inconsistent results.
