Nausing Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) We have Office 365 Education Plus for Students but not for Faculty. What is the difference if I apply the Students license to staff users? How do I target student users in Office 365 to apply a specific email address for them? i.e @stu.xxx.ac.uk I have set up Azure AD Connect to sync onsite AD with Office 365. I want to eventually setup Microsoft Classroom once everyone is used to using Office 365 apps and tools. Any answers, suggestions or links are highly appreciated. Thanks Edited October 8, 2016 by Nausing
apearce Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 You should get the faculty licenses added - trying going to Office.com/teachers and registering a teachers account and it should add the licenses. The Teachers license will also give you things like the OneNote Class Notebook and teacher view for Microsoft Classroom (when it is released). Student accounts wont. As for email addresses, set these in AD if you are implementing AD Connect. Add SMTP:[email protected] to the users ProxyAddresses attribute on the user. 1

I have the domain @stu.xxx.ac.uk verified in Office 365. Is there a way to deploy to straight to the users already in Office 365? Also the default email address in Office 365 is set to xxx.ac.uk but the email sends from [email protected], any idea?
Devontechie Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 As @apearce said above with AD connect setup, you need to add the address in AD under the proxyaddress. This will then sync to O365 and set the right email address

I've ran a force sync from the Azure software too. Also: How do I change students logon users for Office 365 from [email protected] to [email protected]? Thank you.
Matt_Renato Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 In the proxyaddress settings in AD make sure that the SMTP for the primary email is in capitals, you can add secondary email addresses by having the SMPT in lower case. If you log into the admin portal and select the user what is their primary email address set as?

It should have been SMTP: The next thing is changing the logon email address. It is syncing the logon username from ADSync but I was the default username to be the students primary email address for simplicity. How do I change students logon users from [email protected] to [email protected]? EDIT: Update the Username with the same domain as the student primary email address in bulk. apearce Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Theo, Change the UPN of the student to @stu.xxx.ac.uk. You may need to add the domain to Active Directory Domains and Trusts first. Next sync it will change it. This won't effect users (unless they log in with their full UPN which i'm assuming they dont). Alex 1

Something very odd is happening though. 2 users, same UPN, same STMP:[email protected] but one send from the correct email and the other sends from domain.onmicrosoft.com.... Any suggestions? Both are set as [email protected] for the primary email address in O365. Edited October 9, 2016 by Nausing
Matt_Renato Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Have you tried a full sync rather than a delta sync? That will sometimes fix things when O365 isn't acting quite right.

Yes I did this and it fix a lot of weird things but still not the from email address. I'll phone MS tomorrow and confirm some things with them.

If you click on the actual sync you can view the details being moved across for the users so can see what's being set e.g. Check the SMTP etc It could just be something as stupid as they've got it set to the alternative email in Outlook etc still Steve
