Banjo Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Also consider in future the likes of Group Census's - being able to submit the Census for a group of schools in one go; it'll inevitably happen with a browser based MIS solution. It won't happen with a localised, standalone instance(s). That's just one example, but I am sure there are lots of others where the same applies. The DfE have plans to replace the current way the Census is collected, so I wouldn't worry too much about that going forward.
RootsSchImp Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 (edited) If you haven't already I'd recommend doing a cost benefit of sticking with self hosting vs moving to a cloud based solution. Plus with a cloud solution you're safer from ransomware attacks which I think are a non-negligible risk now. Edited September 4, 2017 by elsiegee40

True, but the DfE do seem to be moving on this project. "We should finish our alpha development stage at the end of July. We’re conducting user research, internally and with schools, LAs and suppliers, to validate user needs and what the new user journey might look like. We’re creating an API to move relevant data (census data that is used to calculate funding), providing validation back to the user. Based on our research, we’re also planning what we could build for schools and LAs and develop the service to allow web-form and bulk uploads where it is not possible to send data via an API"
Shadow_Walker Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 How do other MAT's do remote access for SIMS. For example what is the best way for a member of staff at site A accessing Sims at Site B?
katrinam Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 There's an ini file that's been set up that allows me to access (currently) 4 lots of SIMS. I've yet to sort out accessing 4 lots of SIMS discover though! Possibly doing this through separate shortcuts on the desktop.
Edu-IT Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 How many people? If just specific few you could setup a few virtual desktops for them to access.
