Ruckus WIFI issues

Hi,

 

I'm having issues in our science blockat the moment (actually for ages) which i thought I had a breakthru with last week but hit another snag.

 

We have 20 laptops, 10 Thinkpads and 10 Stone ones. When i use PDQ deploy some of the throughput was in the kb/s range... whereas the one next to it was a couple of MB/s. No rhymne or reason why, they are identical. Anyway last week I decided to play with the Stone ones and forced 5ghz and voila.. I was getting over 10 for each machine and when I used LANspeedtest it was over 80Mb sec...

 

Unfortunately the Thinkpads were 2.4Ghz only so I thought I'd buy some mini WIFI Usb adapters, glue them in and stick them all on 5ghz. For some reason the first one didnt work until I messed around with the Channels and it started working... got another one to test and again, did a bit of fiddling and it worked.

 

So today I went over and did a couple more.. and they all stopped working. First they wouldnt connect at all until I went into the settings bit of W10 and did the WIFI from there... but they reported as having no internet connection. I disabled the WIFI, walked to a different room where I knew the other WIFI AP would pick it up and it connected instantly... thought the AP was the issue so I rebooted it... then the other one stopped working. I've tested all the settings I can, roaming, preferred channel, disabled the power saving options but nothing got it working.... so took one laptop back to my office where there is an identical WIFI AP and it worked 100% without me changing anything.

 

They are Ruckus 7363 and identically setup, its connected on 108 in my office.. I think it was lower in Science but cant rememeber.

 

Anyone got some tips?

 

I have a box full of Cisco 1131AG APs but dont want to stick them on my network as the Ruckus BYOD is working lovely.

Hi, is your network flat or vlan'ed? if vlan'ed have you made sure all the vlans are correctly tagged. Have you tried other device in that area? if so do they work? how have you got the Channels setup on Ruckus / your endpoints are they set to Auto?

Not meshed, only vlanned for BYOD the rest is flat and everyhting is set to Auto. I have tried forcing a channel but it didnt help

I once had an unexplainable issue with a ruckus ap. intermittent loss of connection with one ap. affected multiple laptops in one room, but worked fine else where. Factory reset ap, swapped with a known working one, issue still existed in same room.

 

Ended up being burglar alarm sensor interference.

Its a mare of a building, when I drilled the ceiling mounts for the projectors I burned out a couple of bits as the ceiling and walls are like granite... I think it was built as a nuclear bunker.

 

I'm going to swap one of the APs out and see if that helps tomorrow first thing. I've always hated wireless even though I've worked in IT for 15 year
