Wireless D-LINK Router Problems

Good Afternoon,

 

I have a D-LINK DWL-2000AP+ Router sat in my office collecting dusk. We don't have any wireless around the site expect some small routers, which we allow staff to access.

 

I would like to put this router over in the art block but there's a problem.

 

I have turned it on and connected it to our network, The name for the device is default and there is currently no password protection. I need to connect to the GUI to change the name and put a password on but can i hell find the IP address of the router.

 

I have checked DHCP for a IP Address but there is nothing there, I have used the MAC address of the device and assigned it an IP but still nothing. I have tried every external IP i can think of and i have tried connecting it to a laptop and doing IPCONFIG but it just gives me our default Gateway IP.

 

Anyone else got any tips or ideas to try? Any help is greatly received enjoy your evening.

I'd configure it in the office on a laptop first.

TBH, this is a very old single channel device (it must be 10 years old now!) and I suspect that unless you intend it to be used for some light web browsing it would be next to useless these days.

Looking at its data sheet here: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/-/media/consumer_products/dwl/dwl-2000ap-plus/datasheet/dwl-2000ap-plus_datasheet_en_uk.pdf it appears to only support WEP encryption. In which case I'd destroy it with a hammer.

Those things need destroying. They are capable of WPA if I recall correctly, but a LOT of modern machines won't connect to them with anything other than WEP.

I feel like I have gone back in time reading this post. I am half tempted to report a bug stating the date of the OP must be incorrect

Buffalo?! That takes me back.

I see they are still around, but have not seen their kit used anywhere for years.

Try and avoid it these days. One of my primaries has a dozen Wireless N bufallo points I bought for them probably 6 years ago now to replace an array of rubbish Dlinks (probably the same model as above). They were "ok" until they started resetting themselves even with DDWRT installed. Unifi replaced them though

I had a load of DLink DWL access points - the big heavy grey ones. They were great until I updated the firmware on them then they stopped connecting on half my machines.

 

Rolled the firmware back... SAME PROBLEM.

 

Ruckus sorted it.
