Morning all,

We've set all our printers to deploy via GPP and item level targeting over the summer. In the last few days, we have installed a new photocopier in one of the departments. The policy has been updated to reflect the new photocopier and its IP address. The staff in that department have Microsoft Surfaces and of the 6 devices, 1 of them has picked up the new photocopier and can print to it. The other 5 will not pick up the photocopier. I can manually connect to it, I can ping the IP address, it just won't deploy via GPP.

Any suggestions?

We've had to update a couple of our printers to be using Windows 10 drivers rather than the server driver. The older driver resulted in similar issues to you as mapping manually worked but not via GPP. I updated the driver and now it works. You could try a different one PCL 5/6 if there is no newer version?

ok...so I've tried every single driver that is available for this photocopier....and it is no different. What I can't get my head round is why it works for one surface and not the others!

just some things to consider if you haven't already:

Is your Item level targeting correct?

are the surfaces in the right OU etc?

are you deploying shared printers or TCP/IP?

have you disabled point and print restrictions?

loopback policy if you're applying to users?

Sorted it :-) I have two policies that do printer installs and I had updated the path to the printer on one and not the other. Still doesn't explain why one surface was randomly working though :-S
