hardtailstar Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) With Google set to announce the new 'Pixel' phones at the event. Leaked photos show Google Pixel and Pixel XL in the wild Im looking forward to the announcement of the new phone and hopefully the full release of Google Home. What are other people looking to see announced? EDIT: live stream link from 5pm: Edited October 4, 2016 by hardtailstar
Localtechie Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I was until I saw the price! Part of the reason why I loved the nexus 4/5 was the fact it was a brilliant phone for the cost however £650 for a phone is to much for me to pay. I'm also weary about future updates the Nexus 6 is getting it's last feature update when it gets N and that is poor for an 18 month old phone so it doesn't give me any confidence it will improve with the Pixel.

There isn't any set price only speculated. I dont think N will be the last update on the Nexus 6.
Dos_Box Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I do think that smart phones have now reached the stage where people simply don't want to, or even don't have to, spend that amount to get a phone which does exactly what they want. I have a Nexus 5x which does all I need and was just a tad over £220 when purchased. Yes, there will always be the need for technical innovation (which comes at a cost and people will still buy) but the days where the average consumer has to fork out very large prices for tech which does what they need are fading fast. Still, when all's said and done, I want
RichCowell Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 The larger is only 5.5"! dropping screen size again... I won't be bothering with theirs this time...
Arthur Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 One feature of the new Pixel phones I am looking forward to the most is the seamless updates. www.xda-developers.com/exclusive-dual-boot-may-be-possible-on-pixel-phones www.androidpolice.com/2016/05/19/current-nexus-devices-will-not-get-the-new-seamless-update-feature-from-android-n/ When my Nexus 6P is updated every month with security updates the phone is basically unusable for 20+ minutes while they are being installed. So annoying!

bald_pig Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 My Nexus 5 was great, my 6p has been a bit naff, I think I'll be moving away from the Nexus lineup next time round!
RichCowell Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 My Nexus 5 was great, my 6p has been a bit naff, I think I'll be moving away from the Nexus lineup next time round! I've had the 5, 6, and currently on the 6P and loved them all... what don't you like about the 6P? (just wondering)
hardtailstar Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 My Nexus 5 was great, my 6p has been a bit naff, I think I'll be moving away from the Nexus lineup next time round! Move to the Pixel line up
bald_pig Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 The high fps video doesn't work unless you restart the phone, I've had some random reboots and lockups, and the updates take forever, it's just been a bit disappointing compared to the 5
arwen Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Love loved my nexus 4, until i saw the screen on the Nexus 5. I really like my Nexus 5, apart from the fact it now overheats easily. When it over heats it becomes very sluggish and glitchy. I suspect I'll be buying the Pixel when it comes out, simply because I could do with replacing my 5 anyway. The smaller pixel is a very similar size, and should be a noticeable tech increase for me. So I'm looking forward to it.

Arthur Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) Google Wi-Fi sounds interesting... Google will introduce Google Wifi, a $129 home Wi-Fi router, on 4th October ...two sources are now telling us that Google will introduce an own-brand Wi-Fi router called Google Wifi, and that the device will cost $129. A source that has proved reliable in the past has told us that the device will be launched alongside Google's Pixel phones, Google Home, and the 4K 'Chromecast Ultra' on 4th October. Google Home will cost $129, Chromecast Ultra will cost $69 Google Home was announced at Google I/O in May. Our sources also confirmed that the personalized base covers Google showed at I/O will be a feature of the final device. The $129 price point for Google Home matches that of the previously-unrumored Google Wi-Fi, a router that will allegedly be able to create a single, large wireless network using multiple access points. $129 also undercuts Amazon's Echo by a full $40, and though matches the price of the portable Amazon Tap, it's clear Google has Amazon's flagship smart home product in its sights with Home. As far as Home features, we don't have anything new to report at this time, just the price. Chromecast Ultra, which we are now all but certain is the name of Google's upcoming 4K version of Chromecast, will come in at $69 retail. That means it will be double the price of the existing Chromecast 2015. Now, you may say "that's expensive!" And for a Chromecast, it certainly is. As far as what it brings beyond 4K, one of our sources claims that HDR is indeed on the list of bullet points. Unfortunately, we don't really have anything else as far as expanded feature set might be concerned. And remember: it's almost certainly a given that the standard full HD Chromecast will remain on sale after the Ultra is released, because 4K penetration, though growing, still is far from ubiquitous. Now, why you'd want a 4K Chromecast over, say, Xiaomi's upcoming Mi Box Android TV? We'll probably have to wait a bit for that debate to be settled. Edited September 23, 2016 by Arthur
Arthur Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 https://twitter.com/lockheimer/status/779757830203068416 Google's merged Android-Chrome OS 'Andromeda' may be teased on 4th October Seemingly innocuous and vague, Lockheimer's tweet means little standing on its own. But with the right context? We believe this is the best evidence yet that Google plans to tease the long-fabled merger of Android and Chrome OS on 4th October. That project is known internally at Google as Andromeda, and even if we don't see Andromeda demoed on the 4th, we can assure you it's quite real.
Arthur Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Another interesting Andromeda rumour. Google is planning a 'Pixel 3' laptop running the 'Andromeda' OS for release in Q3 2017 Two independent and reliable sources have confirmed to us that Google is planning a new Pixel laptop to be released in Q3 2017. The project, known internally as 'Bison' and by the informal nickname 'Pixel 3,' will likely be the first brand-new device to showcase Google's combined Android / Chrome OS 'Andromeda' operating system in a laptop form factor. Bison, then, would be the culmination of years of work by Google's Pixel team and Google's Android and Chrome OS teams. We are extremely confident Google plans for the device to run Andromeda. We are also confident that Andromeda is a completely distinct effort from Google's current campaign to bring Android apps to Chromebooks, and that Bison would not be marketed as a Chromebook. Android apps on Chrome OS descended from the ARC project, while Andromeda is a much larger, more ambitious initiative that is being pursued via merging Chrome features into Android, not vice versa. As such, it would be more accurate to say Bison will run Android than Chrome OS, and could finally be Google's internal commitment to releasing Andromeda. (This lines up with the narrative The Wall Street Journal presented in its exclusive about the merge effort last year, in which laptops were specifically singled out as the merged OS's first big target).

bald_pig Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Another thing to add to my list of annoyances, my torch disappeared this morning! It's back after a restart, but no good when I needed it!
flyinghaggis Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) I like the fact that Google is taking a more hands on approach with the pixel line of hardware but as someone who's been using Nexus phones for a couple of years now Im concerned by the move towards a more premium price point. If the USD price is $649 that means we'll probably be paying nearly £600 for it! I'm not sure I really want to go back to spending that kind of money on a handset. It'll have to be something pretty special to justify that kind of price tag. It's about time Google moved forward with it's plans to merge ChromeOS and Android somehow. I like the idea of a touchscreen Android laptop/convertible with the ability to run ChromeOS browser. With a few tweaks that could finally give Google a desktop/laptop OS to compete with OSX and Windows. Edited October 1, 2016 by flyinghaggis
NotSoFast Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Now we have the Play store on Chrome OS I'm not sure what further merging is necessary. Looking forward to being surprised on the 4th though!
