IE Homepage not being set on first logon

Noticed this behaviour today, running Windows 1607. I have a GPP in place that sets various things in Internet Explorer, one being the Homepage. However, when a student logs in for the first time, the home page is just set to 'about:blank'. If I log them out and back in again on the same computer, the Homepage is set correctly to one of our internal servers!

 

Most odd - any thoughts?

you can do a proxyenable reg in group policy as we have had old machine with xp and 7 and still use it

I tried doing an additional GPO that tweaked the registry, but that didn't seem to work.

 

I've worked round it for now by changing the IE icon to have the argument of the website address we want set as the home page. Sorted for now.

This might be because the policies are being applied after the login has completed.

 

If you haven't done so, I would disable Fast Logon. This can be done by enabling "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" under Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates\System\Logon

I have to have this policy enabled for Folder Redirection as if I don't have it applied, it does the folder redirection on the second login.

This might be because the policies are being applied after the login has completed.

 

If you haven't done so, I would disable Fast Logon. This can be done by enabling "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" under Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates\System\Logon

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I've got this set but this is the sort of nudge I need to check these things. I have re-written all of our GPOs from scratch for Windows 10 so I may missed this one!

Double checked - definitely have this one in place!

 

However, I do have 'Run Logon scripts synchronously' disabled - so may try this one first.

We stumbled across this issue recently. Do you set about:blank as your homepage as part of an MDT task when imaging?

 

We eventually fixed it by going to User Configuration\Administrative templates\Windows Component\Internet Explorer and setting Disable External Branding of Internet Explorer to Enabled.
