On a separate (but related) note, here's another poll.

 

Will the Daily Mail* take the opportunity to slag off the BBC for its purely reckless handling of the subject regardless of the outcome?

You really don't know?!

 

She's not guilty having acted in self defence in my view, but whether that's the jury's verdict is another matter. And then there's the fall out: Will he be charged? Will she get custody of Henry if found not guilty?

 

This won't be the end of it!

@DaveP: I agree but, to be honest, if people don't get the reference then they're not likely to vote. Call it an in-joke for closet Archers listeners. :p

Then now is the time to make amends. Here's a link to this morning's omnibus edition covering the whole trial (and, no, you don't need a TV licence for iPlayer Radio). As you don't know the backstory, it would be interesting to hear your opinion based purely on the evidence presented at the trial.

It has been very hard to listen to the Archers in the last year. Some really difficult stuff culminating in this trial.

 

If only they could have called on the BBC to supply the audio evidence to support Helen. It's all there in their archives. Rob is evil!

Thanks, but not at the moment. My personal circumstances could come from the plot of a soap. I am currently preparing for a meeting with an NHS team working at the hospital where mum is staying at the moment.

 

Mum's medical team want to apply a DNR order to her notes against the wishes of her family. I am attending the meeting in the hope of persuading them not to enforce this order.

 

I am concerned that the meeting may not go in my favour.

Really sorry to hear this @DaveP. Coping with an ailing and ageing Mum myself, though she's in a better state than yours, and it's not at all easy:(

Off topic: This probably isn't the right forum for this topic so I'll keep this short: The meeting's on Tuesday at about 12:30. I will have a tricky job to talk the NHS staff around as my uncooperative sister will be there too (She is mum's full time carer and is strongly opposed to the approach of the NHS on this issue, but she doesn't help because she responds so emotionally: I need the meeting to proceed quietly)

 

Thinking of you and your mum @elsiegee40.

 

Back on topic: I saw the news item on this and I expect that the trial is over now? Hope Helen is OK.

Ummm. All sorts of emotions, but I didn't cry.

Well ... I ... ummm ... errr, I'd lit my little wood burner [*1] and had sat snug with a nice glass of wine and I have to admit, I felt the tears well up. Films occasionally do that to me (and I find it terribly embarrassing when they do) but always by manipulating me via the music. It's a testament to the power of the drama they got me without pulling that trick. On the other hand, as a loooong time listener, I'm glad this story line is coming to an end (assuming it is!).

 

[*1] My 'snug' gets no sun and little enough light so is nice and cool in the summer heat but needs heating long before I turn the boiler back on.

It must've been the smoke. ;)

 

I think this phase of the story is coming to a close... just as well because it was becoming very challenging to listen to... I'm not sure how much more people could take... but the writer was speaking on Today this morning and said it'll rumble on for a while yet.

20 or 30 years in his opinion!

 

I've got to be honest, I thought the actual episode was awful! People talking all at once, with Catherine Tate going 20 to the dozen. I found it really difficult to concentrate on what was actually going on*, and the verdict itself bore little relation to what (I think) was happening during the deliberation.

 

That said, I think the BBC deserves to be congratulated for addressing a difficult topic head-on.

(*To be fair, though, I'd had a few drinks before I listened to it. :drunken_smilie:)

 

EDIT: So I don't sound like I'm completely alcohol dependent, I'd been out to watch a film and bumped into some friends. I didn't get home until turned midnight, and I listened to it on catch-up.
