OliverWaters Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Hello there guys! So basically we have staff laptops that they get to take home, work on etc and have all the required software needed. However when I re-install an image and work around with the AD and finalize it, they can log on locally but nothing seems to be "updating" so to speak. The process of what I do is: Image the laptop (up to date images) Name it to match what I name on the AD Add it to the right groups (e.g. smartboard group) I then connect it to the domain (prompts reboot) I log on locally (not sure If i can on the domain?) I get the following error WHEN trying to log onto the domain - You cannot log on because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer. Please see your network administrator for more information. I then create the local username and password and match whats on the server For some reason it manages to download a program onto the machine (target tracker) and i can connect to the servers/drives. Does anyone know why programs etc are not downloading? Been stuck on this for almost 3 days.. Sorry if this sounds like a newbie question, was shadowing the system admin here but they are currently now on maternity and im on my own. Thanks a bunch, Oliver.
ITJS2015 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 It sounds like your group policy has locked out the user your trying to login to that specific computer within the OU I would move the computer into a blank out with just your default domain policy applied and check to see if you can login that way
OliverWaters Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Thank you for the reply! I presume I can unlock the user to the specific machine within group policy right?
OliverWaters Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Also - i've just tried with another account, and I get the same error and problem. The second user doesn't have a desktop he/she logs on to but the first does and can do that perfectly fin, it's just these laptops. Oliver
ITJS2015 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Is the user in the correct OU where you have your re-directed desktop? do you have your accounts the same member of ?
OliverWaters Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Yes to both - does it help if i say the problem may have occured when I logged onto the staff laptop using my admin account?
ITJS2015 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 It Sounds like even you have logged in with an admin account that the normal users you have tried logging into is that a group isn't added somewhere to allow access to login You must of locked down this with a gp and not added the Users group to allow to login to your devices. I would look at your GPs and check if that isn't the case then login to the machine with a local account or admin account and add the user with domain\user and see if it added in and then login with it This test will see if it is a local issue or domain issue
