apps for Printing form Ipads

Hi,

 

Please does anyone know any free software(I can install on the server) i can use on ipads so staffs and students can print off it?

 

I was in contact with a distributor from Presto but it is quite a high price.

Which printers do you have? Many models have a free airprint upgrade (i.e. many Konica's do).

its the copier it needs activating on the ipads should just pick it up if its visible to them

Thanks all but the school where I work want to use a third party software like "Presto" any ideas of cheaper ones?

Two of our primaries use Printer Pro with Xerox machines and it works well. Theres a paid for and a free version of the app. Not sure of the top of my head is the difference between the two.

I think it depends on the model, but it may be as easy as a firmware upgrade. At one primary with a couple of Konica's they were running an old firmware, I rang Konica to try and get the new Firmware and they sent someone out the same day to upgrade both printers and turn on Airprint (unfortunately we also had a long forgotten about Netgear switch with a rogue ICMP setting that prevented Airprint, that took me about a week to figure out! But we got there in the end).

 

I've set my schools up with a separate IP range for iPads (just reserved the MAC addresses) and added that range as an exception on the Konica's so the iPads can print straight out (i.e. no authentication).

 

You can also get a free app called PageScope mobile, which will print to the Konica's with authentication (and no need to enable Airprint first). I found the app a bit fiddly to work with, maybe to do with the way we'd set up the printer, although TBH, Airprint is probably preferable on iDevices as you can print from every app (one of the issues with PageScope is you need to print from within the app itself, teachers will constantly ask to be reminded how to print!! Its nowhere near as intuitive as AirPrint). I'd still maybe try the app first simply because it enables printing without any config changes (hopefully).
