Local Admin Password fails on 2 machines in classrom, works on others

Hi all,

20 Windows 8 clients in a classroom. Can log on locally as Administrator to 18 on of them. But two reject the same username/password combination. I should stress that this combination worked on both the rogue machines perfectly 40 minutes ago, then began rejecting me (as Administrator user) after I restarted the computers following a Flash update, i.e. came up with error message, username or password incorrect.

Anyone any thoughts? It seems unlikely any corruption could suddenly happen, and why on only two machines out of 20 so suddenly?

Hi, there are 3 DCs, I can ping 2 but not the third. I'm new in this place, so don't everything yet. It could be that one DC out of the three is not being used for some reason. So, yes, 2 out of three.

To clarify further, I've now established I can Remote in to the computer over the domain using the administrator/password combination, it's local login with the same username and password, at the computer itself, which is rejected (but which worked perfectly a couple of hours ago). Have checked keyboards, looked for Caps lock etc.

type the password in the username box (so you can see the output), is it correct?

try using .\administrator and not PCNAME\administrator as the username

Hi andydis, Hi Robsonma,

Well, in the end I logged in remotely as domain admin, went in to Local users and reset the Local Administrator password....To what it was before (by the way). Now I get it fine again as Local Admin. As to what caused the problem, would be fascinated to find out. I glanced over the event log, and saw nothing that even gave a clue. Many thanks to both of you for your suggestions/tips.

There is a password fault on windows 8 ? you could possibly delete the password from the vault and try again logging in.

If you cannot login in locally I would login with a domain account and delete the local account and create it again to make sure it works
