Good Morning all,

I was wondering if you guys could provide me with some advice please?

We redirect our desktops and start menus for users. We have recently rebuilt our main DC on which the folder direction was located at \\servername.network.local\redirection$.

We have moved the folder redirection to \\network.local\Netlogon\redirection and updated our policies. All works fine for a new user logging on to a pc for the first time. The problem is, when a user logs onto the system that has previously used it and therefore has a local profile on the machine the desktop doesn't load and comes up with an error saying it can't load the desktop and shows it's looking in the old location.

Clearing the profiles fixes this but I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.

I've done a gpupdate but the problem remains until I delete the user profile.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks

If you got a broken user to test what's all these keys set to currently?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

The old one?

The easiest thing to do is to delete the profiles from the machine using Delprof2. However, you could adapt Steve's suggestion navigating through the registry editor to the keys specified and manually change it to the desired location (e.g. for Students and Staff), then export the registry keys (either once or more depending on the variable paths you may have) and create a login script to call the registry file and apply it. This is the way I did it with some legacy Windows XP machines (offline, don't worry!) to get it to redirect the folders properly with Windows 7. You could also use the policy "Delete roaming profiles older than X Days", setting the value to whatever suits so it's gradually phased in.

Just some suggestions, hope it helps.

Tom
