CC4 build problem on new Windows 7 desktop.

Hi,

 

I have an issue trying to build a new Stone PC, which has a skylake processor i5. I plug in my CC4 build disk which i have used countless times, it boots up but just after the Windows 7 icon goes it throws up an error stating 'Session exception: control file not found on optical medium'. Using a Win 7 standalone DVD/ISO image I get a file missing error before I get to the formatting the drive options etc. I browse and Windows can't find anything.

 

Now RM believe this to be a USB 3 driver issue in Win 7 and pointed me to this tec document TEC5097300. I did the first part to this article using a stand alone ISO image on a USB and the same thing happened as mentioned above??

 

Has anyone else on an RM CC4 network experienced this error before? It's not my build key as I've used it countless times this holiday already and it's not a network error as the build process hasn't got far enough. It's also worth mentioning that if I used my Win 10 CC4 build key it will go through fine without error?? Shame the PC needs to be Win 7 Pro.

Hi Ben,

Yes, this happened to us with some new laptops... and RM said it was a USB 3 driver issue with Skylake processors. There is an updated build disc that allows USB3 drivers to be added to it as well as the normal LAN drivers. Haven't played with that aspect yet... enough other stuff to do...

We got round it by burning the iso of the build to a CDrom and booting the laptop from that. then the build worked fine...!

Ah okay Nick. I'll give the CD a try, like you I've got loads to do. How was the update to the build area applied is it just a server update that you run on your build server?

 

I managed to solve it on a stone AIO PC by setting the USB support from part initial to full initial in the bios. This mini Skylake pc though doesn't appear to have that option.

Hi Ben,

I'm trying to find the details of the build disc... but failing miserably...

the version that should work with USB3 drivers added is RM default build disc (WinPE3.1) version 1.0.019, thats the one we have for Win7 builds.

If I mange to remember, i'll post the details... (I'm blaming age and lack of tea...)

Found the details...!

 

here's the quote from the RM Support call i'd raised:

 

This updated build disk is delivered via CC4UPD187 and 188. (Updated WIM images and build disk version for Windows 7 x86 and 64 respectively) The updated version of the build disk (Rm Default Build Disk WinPE 3.1 version 1.0.0.19)will then allow you to select USB device drivers to be added to the disk as well as the network drivers which can then be utilised during the build process.

Ah many thanks Nick. I'll probably mess with that in September. For now the CD is working fine, just a bit slower. I completely forgot about the CD image to be honest as it's been years since I last used it.

On a side note. It's interesting that RM support haven't mentioned this server patch yet as this call has been logged since June. Do they know about it I wonder?

Can you explain PXE boot please. I just tried it and worked, getting the server address. I then selected which build disk I wanted, Windows 7 (3.1). It then threw up an error as it couldn't find the network card driver even though that disk definitely does have it as it's the build I always use. I assume the server is checking there for the network driver? The card in the PC is a very generic one to, a realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
