We have a 6th former who wants to buy Access but as i'm sure you know it's not included in the S&T edition, i found a comment on this Amazon link saying you get a voucher to claim a cheep Access has anyone ever seen this.

a voucher to claim MS Access for 30Euros - translated to £18.81 when I ordered it form the MS website.

Cheers.

I don't know if this helps, but if you are an RM school I think your students can buy MS software at up to 90% off retail prices.

Sorry if I'm way off with this one...

Both RM the basement and Software4Students are open to any UK student, regardless of who there school is with. All you have to do is say which school the child attends. You don't even have to give a name. I assume M$'s own website is the same.

They have a deal with M$ to sell the software cheaply to students. I assume this means there will be no more "student & teacher' versions of software.

Software4Students and The Basement are student only, i.e. not teachers and not schools, so there is definitely still a place for academic licences.

Mysql and decent frontend (openoffice) is what this student needs. Does anyone write access anymore? I mean it's really poor in the scalibility dept. oh I forgot - access is what they use in school, right.

There is a place for academic licenses I agree, but if student software is being sold this cheaply, there will be no call from students for the traditional 'student & teacher' license.

Teachers don't get licenses because their schools have them, so I assume that some other arrangement will be forthcoming.

Some teachers still get licences - they can only use ones from their school if there is an MS Schools Agreement in place, but not every school has one of those (we don't, for example).

neither do we... hence the point I was trying to make (but failing miserably) :)

Ah nice one Dos_Box, i suppose we'll have problems as we run 2003 on the network. Any idea if this is the case?

Cheers.

Compatibility shouldn't be a problem so long as the student saves as a 2k3 or 2k database. There is really good compatibility for the older formats in Access. I just had a look at it on my pc and it is so much more friendly looking than before.
