Students able to access the Intel display Driver

We run a tightly locked down system here (well, so i thought we did). It turns out students are able to to change the display settings of the machines, rotate the screens etc even thought the shortcut keys are disabled and is the tray icon... How?? They click the Show desktop button next to the clock, then press the context menu key on the keyboard to display the desktop context menu. We already disable right click on our machines.

 

If you have machines with the Intel Drivers or NVidea drivers you may see problem.

 

The fix ->

 

In the registry:

 

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

 

Look for a key:

igfxui (for Intel),

NvCplDesktopContext (for nVidia)

or similar keys if you have a different graphics card.

 

Once you find the key, delete it.

Time to put a reg entry in to all the machines via GPO.

I've had to do this on our student machines just recently.

We've done it for a good while for Intel drivers, but that's reminded me to do it for the very few Nvidia and the huge number of AMD GPU machines we have.
