ful56_uk Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Evening all Looking for a small compact gaming PC and have stumbled across the steam machines. Been looking at the i7 version. Does anyone have one? If so what are your thoughts on it? I like the steam machine because of its size. Not a massive gamer more console base.
ful56_uk Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 off there site It comes with a 2Gb NVIDIA® GTX GPU based on the new Maxwell architecture that ensures your Alienware Steam Machine performs similarly to the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 8600M, and has plenty of power to propel your gaming experience to new heights.
DalekSec Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Do you have a link? Not that powerful GPU, should be able to run at Ok setting, nothing groundbreaking. But if you arnt a hardcore gamer it shouldn't matter!
Duranis Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 They are supposed to be pretty good, if you remove the steam OS and chuck windows on. The form factor is nice but you are paying a premium for it. I was looking at one of these for my Mrs as she likes a lot of PC games but doesn't like sitting in front of the PC to play them. I will probably just build a cheap gaming rig in to one of the draws of the bookcase that has all the consoles on it. Much cheaper and easier to upgrade when needed.
ful56_uk Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) Alienware Steam Machine | Dell UK there different models http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-steam-r2-console/pd.aspx This is the link Thats the reason im looking at them is the form factor, not a massive PC gamer but i do like playing a bit of Dayz and also the option of playing some PC games when im bored on the xbox Edited July 1, 2016 by ful56_uk
DalekSec Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 DayZ should be fine on it I think, one thing I highly suggest DO NOT USE THE STEAM CONTROLLER!! Worst £40 I've spent I hated it, ended up not using it for 2 months and then giving it to my bosses son for free because I didn't want anyone to have to pay for it as it's like selling someone a virus! Check you can use the Xbox control with it, Never know you might like the steam controller personally I hated it. It's well made and very configurable (I loved you can change the noise it makes when it turns on and off) but the two trackpads were a mistake.

Hmmmm. Maxwell isn't new, at all. Depending on what you want to play and at what resolution, that GPU (it can't be a GTX 8600M, more like a GTX 860M) may be a little weedy going forward. - - - Updated - - - off there site It comes with a 2Gb NVIDIA® GTX GPU based on the new Maxwell architecture that ensures your Alienware Steam Machine performs similarly to the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 8600M, and has plenty of power to propel your gaming experience to new heights. Garacesh Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 You know you can just build your own and whack SteamOS on it, right? That's all Steam Machines are, just computers running SteamOS. You'll be saving yourself some money and getting more control of the hardware by doing a DIY job.
ful56_uk Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 Yeah I'm looking into that at the mo. Looking for cases that will fit nicely into the tv stand
