Garacesh Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The member of staff in question says this happens after she comes back to her machine and logs in, so it's my assumption this happens after a machine drops into sleep. Her desktop is empty, until she refreshes it. The desktop is kept on a network share. Once her desktop is back, if she tries to open any folder, nothing opens, and the last icon in her taskbar disappears and reappears quickly. explorer.exe can still be launched and ran 'as normal' through the run prompt. zip folders open fine. So my assumption is it's something to do with the the machine going to sleep and not coming back out of it properly, but as nobody else has reported this error I'm not sure where to look. It's happened to her on two different machines so far (one staff, one pupil) but I haven't the foggiest where to even begin looking.
DJ-1701 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Strange, have you looked to see what the power options on the computer in question? I know in device manager there is an option on network cards to disable to save power as well, might be worth unticking that as well just in case.

If it's happened on two different machines so far, though, I need a way to disable that site-wide.. Advanced Power options?? Not quite sure what you're getting at.
Steve21 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Do you have smart/other touch stuff installed on them? There was an issue I saw with people using tablet mode that they either turned on by accident or hit a button on the "touchy tools" that enabled this. Steve
mikeyd101 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Also check the network driver, i've had machine sleep issues that were down to the driver.

A few of ours do, but not the ones she's had the problem with. Also check the network driver, i've had machine sleep issues that were down to the driver. It's happened across two different models of machine, so I'm fairly confident it's a Windows 10 issue not a driver one, but no harm in double-checking. Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings Power plan is set to Balanced.

You can change the balanced settings for individual items etc.
