Exchange Remote Device Wipe

Hi all,

 

Just a quick question, what does the remote wipe of mobile devices on exchange server actually wipe? Is it just the active sync data (email, contact, calendar etc) or does it wipe the entire device including the users pictures, apps etc etc too?

 

I had a look online but didnt find an exact answer.

It wipes the entire device!

It depends.

 

I've found with iOS devices that if you connect to the Exchange server using a sandboxing app or with certain apps such as OWA, it just wipes the app's settings. If you connect using the phone's built in mail/calendaring app, it factory resets the entire device. I suspect it's the same with Android phones but I've not tried with those.

Whooops, I've used the remote wipe feature for a number of our ex-employees. Imagine that, getting sacked and your phone factory resetting on the same day!

 

I think 95% of our mobile devices use the built in apps. I've only seen one person use the OWA app.

I use Nine on Android. You can choose if remote wipe will reset the phone or the app. Stock Android no longer has an exchange client, you are expected to use the Gmail app as a client. Lots of manufacturers include an exchange client with their skin so it varies phone to phone.
