Lightroom CC - Catalogue on Network Volume

Adobe Lightroom CC is not allowing creation of catalogues on the network, it only allows a local disk. Not very practical for a school. Has anyone got this sorted for Lightroom catalogues on network locations?

Thanks, looks promising.

Next problem when students log in and create a catalogue, then log in somewhere else LightRoom will not know where this catalogue is, can we force a reg key to make LightRoom always look at our subst drive L:\LightRoom?

Look in the preferences Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefsfile under C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences you should be able to change what you need in there.

we have this working now but the thing is that the subst drive is labelled 'disconnected network drive', there is no way to rename it. students will need to know to click on this odd sounding drive as the import location, I'm not sure this will work......shame, it was kind of close to being OK.

Can you not change the label in the registry? A quick Google search returned this:

 

 

1. Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
   
2. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer registry subkey.
   
3. From the Edit menu, select New, Key, then enter the name DriveIcons.
   
4. Select the new key; from the Edit menu, select New, Key; then enter the drive name (e.g., B).
   
5. Select the created key; from the Edit menu, select New, Key; then enter the name DefaultLabel.
   
6. Navigate to DefaultLabel, then double-click the (default) value.
   
7. Enter the text you want to appear for the drive, then click OK.
   
8. Close the registry editor.

Because it uses an SQLite database, make sure that by substing or similar you don't risk to open the same catalogue on different machines.

 

Having said that, besides subst, you can also keep the catalogue on one single machine, and share it out using things like SeaFile.

 

The restriction of having the catalogue open on always only one machine still applies, of course.
